Brief description: "Narcotic Beats", released in 1998, is a groundbreaking electronic album by Christopher Donohue under the moniker Accelera Deck. The album is a meticulous exploration of glitch and ambient music, blending fractured rhythms, static-laden textures, and hypnotic loops. Tracks like “Simulacrum” and “Isotope Memory” create a rich auditory experience, evoking a sense of both chaos and calm. The record showcases Donohue’s mastery of experimental sound manipulation, establishing him as a key figure in the IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) genre. One interesting thing about Narcotic Beats is that it was entirely self-produced in Donohue’s home studio, using repurposed equipment originally designed for scientific research.

Personal note:

This album was one of my top listens during my solo road trip out west this last summer. It ws great background music to accompany the beautiful views.
